In Chapter 17 of Blood Fever the villain hosts a dinner party where one of the attendees is “Armando Lippe from Lisbon”. Does that name sound familiar? If you’re a Bond fan, it should! Charlie admitted (under interrogation) that this is the father of Thunderball villain Count Lippe. (Oddly, the U.S. edition omits the name Lippe from the paragraph. Instead, Ugo’s dinner guest is now “Count Armando from Lisbon.”)
The Young Bond books are filled with these clever nods to Fleming. Just one of the reasons I enjoy them so much. Has anyone spotted any other “nods to Fleming” in Blood Fever?
